BANGLADESH’S 54 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE
Today is the Independence Day. The greatest achievement of the Bengali nation is the independence of Bangladesh.
The Bengali nation, which had been struggling for thousands of years, broke the
chain of subjugation and achieved the desired independence on March 26, 1971.
Bangladesh has completed 54 years of independence. Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh on
March 26, 1971.
After the sun of Bengal's independence set in the wilderness of Plassey in
1757, the people of the Indian subcontinent were liberated in 1947 from the
exploitation and oppression of British colonial rule for 190 long years. The
birth of Pakistan, which divided India on the basis of religion, was a
geographical separation of a thousand miles from East Bengal. Not only this,
there was no similarity between the language and culture of the Bengalis and
the Pakistanis. Despite this, East Bengal was annexed to Pakistan by
capitalizing on religious fanaticism.
At the very beginning of the journey of the Pakistan state, which was imposed
on the Bengalis, the people of East Bengal were subjected to various forms of
discrimination in all aspects, including unlimited oppression, exploitation,
torture, oppression, economic, social, political. They are deprived of their
rightful rights. But the people have not accepted this. People of different
classes and professions, including students, farmers and workers of Bengal,
protested against the discriminatory behavior and oppression of the Pakistani
regime. Soon, the struggles of the movement came together into a national
struggle, which became the struggle for freedom and liberation, and in 1971,
the final victory was achieved in the midst of a defensive war of liberation.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led the movement.
From the very
beginning, the Bengali nation started a movement for rights against the misrule
and deprivation of Pakistan. To break the chain of the monstrous Pakistan
state, Bangali started a movement step by step. The path of this struggle was
paved through the great language movement. The nation reached 1971 through 25
years of continuous movement, including the United Front election in '54, the
education movement in' 62, the six-point movement, the mass uprising of '69,
the election of' 70. The continuous movement of the Bangalees against the
military dictatorship and tyranny of Pakistan turned into a movement for
self-determination and independence.
The movement was led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman is known as the Father of the Nation and the undisputed leader of
Bangladesh. On 7 March 1971, in a speech delivered at the historic Suhrawardy
Udyan (then Race Course), Bangabandhu ordered the preparation of an armed
liberation war for independence. From then on, the people of Bengal started
preparing for the war of liberation. On the night of 25 March, the Pakistani
invaders armed with modern weapons started attacking and massacring the unarmed
Bengalis. When the genocide started in the name of Operation Search Light,
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh on
the first morning of March 26 and called for jumping into the war of
liberation. With this declaration of Bangabandhu, an independent, sovereign
state named Bangladesh emerged on the world map.
After the declaration of independence of Bangladesh, the Pakistan Army
immediately arrested Bangabandhu. "Earlier, Bangabandhu wrote the final
declaration of independence -" "This may be my last message,
Bangladesh is independent from today." "" ...Keep fighting until
the final victory is achieved. Bangabandhu's announcement was first broadcast
through the wireless of EPR and immediately the message was spread across the
country through the leaders and activists of Awami League.
In response to Bangabandhu's call, students, farmers, workers, employees,
women, men, and people of all classes and professions of Bengal, regardless of
race, religion, and color, unitedly jumped into the Liberation War. From the
night of 25 March, the Pakistani military began massacres, continuing the
barbaric activities. Their allies Jamaat-e-Islami, Muslim League, Razakars,
Al-Badr and Al-Shams carried out massacres and destruction in collusion with
the Pakistani military. Bengalis fought bravely against it. Defeated by the
Bangalis in the nine-month-long bloody Liberation War, the Pakistani forces
surrendered to the joint command of the Mukti Bahini and the allied forces on
16 December. The final victory of the Bangali nation was achieved at the cost
of the sacrifice of three million martyrs and the honor of two millions of
mothers and sisters in the Liberation War.
This great Independence Day of the nation is being celebrated with due respect
at the state level. Along with the state programs, people of different classes
and professions, including political parties and socio-cultural organizations,
are celebrating the great Independence Day with different programs.
