Submission of List of Registerable GI Products

 

 


The High Court has directed to submit a list of Geographical Indication (GI) products that can be registered nationally and internationally, including registered products.

Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Sardar Md. An HC bench comprising Justice Rashed Jahangir passed the order after hearing a writ petition. The court has set March 19 to submit a compliance report on the implementation of the directives.

Sarwat Siraj Shukla filed the writ petition on Sunday seeking directions to prepare a comprehensive list of GI products. He defended himself in court.

Later, Sarwat Siraj Shukla told Prothom Alo that they have been asked to submit a list of products that have been registered as GI in Bangladesh and a list of GI products that can be registered nationally and internationally within a month. A hearing is scheduled for March 19.
