Dhaka: At least 75 people were rescued alive after a fire broke out at a food stall in Dhaka's Bailey Road. Shajahan Sikder, media cell officer at the Fire Service headquarters, said a total of 75 people were rescued alive in the fire incident at Bailey Road. 45 people have also been rescued.The fire occurred at 9: 30 p.m. on Thursday. 12 firefighting units are working to douse the blaze.




The bodies of the victims of a massive fire at a seven-storey commercial building on Bailey Road in the capital are being handed over to their families.

 

Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman told BBC Bangla that 38 of the 46 dead had been identified. Seven persons have been identified so far.
Eight bodies are yet to be handed over, the health minister said at a press conference.
Thirty-four people died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, 10 at Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit and one at Police Hospital.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman said: "We have already handed over 24 bodies. 21 are still in process. The relatives are coming. Our work continues. "
Mr. Rahman said at least 60 to 70 people were injured in the fire. Three of them are undergoing treatment at a hospital. These are Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Rajarbagh Police Hospital, and Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit. However, many people have been admitted to nearby hospitals on private initiative, he said. Many of them have returned home after treatment.Doctors said many of the injured were in a serious condition.

The fire broke out on the seventh floor of the building on Bailey Road. On the second floor of the building there is a food shop named 'Kacchi Bhai'. A grocery store is located on the third floor, and a grocery store is located on the upper floors. Crowds of shoppers flock to the restaurant every day. According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out on the first and second floors of the building. Fire service personnel arrived on the spot and tried to extinguish the fire. Along with this, with the help of a crane, they started to bring down the people taking shelter on the seventh floor and roof of the building. The fire was brought under control by 13 units of the fire service around 11: 50pm.

 Around 2pm, Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen told reporters that 43 people were killed in the incident. The health minister said eight of the seriously injured were undergoing treatment at the Burn Institute and 14 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. All of them are in critical condition, the minister said.

Half an hour later, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and told reporters that there was also a body at Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital. A total of 44 deaths have been reported.




The bodies were handed over to relatives at 5: 41 am on Friday. The district administration, police and fire service personnel are involved in the transfer process.

There was smoke inside the building after the fire. Fire service personnel then searched the building and pulled out many people in an unconscious state. Several people were seen being taken away in a freezer van of the fire service.

Director General of Fire Service Brig Gen Md. Main Uddin told reporters that three bodies were recovered from the building. Besides, 45 people were rescued in an unconscious state. Among those rescued were 21 women and four children. Besides, 75 people, including 15 women, were rescued alive.

Md.Main Uddin said there were restaurants on all floors of the building except for a garment shop on the third floor. There were many gas cylinders in these restaurants. The fire spread quickly and was doused. He said most of the victims suffered smoke inhalation. No injury marks were found on their bodies.

A fire service worker involved in the rescue work at the building told reporters that there were large gas cylinders on the stairs from the top to the bottom of the building. People couldn't get out of their houses.
RAB-3 Additional Superintendent of Police Kamrul Hasan told reporters at around 2: 30pm that there was a coffee shop on the ground floor of the building. Locals and firefighters said the blaze was caused by a short-circuit.
Mohammad Ali Mia, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police, said the fire originated from the ground floor of the multi-storey building.

 

 

Inquiry Committee

A five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident. According to police sources, the fire service personnel will conduct another search this morning to confirm whether there are any more bodies in the building.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman rushed to the spot after receiving news of the incident. "The daughter of one of our colleagues has died. Another died at the hospital. Pray that the lives of the 75 people who have been rescued are saved. '

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One night there was a terrible scene. The injured were rushed to the hospital in ambulances. A trolley is kept ready at the gate of the emergency department so that patients can be admitted to the hospital as soon as they are taken out of the ambulance. The injured were taken to the emergency ward of the hospital. The atmosphere outside the room was heavy.

Several people were injured after the fire broke out. At least 12 of them have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Most of them suffered injuries on their hands and legs. Din Islam, 28, was injured in a restaurant on the seventh floor of the building. He said that after the fire broke out, he went down on the internet. At one point, he fell and was injured.
