How many hours of fasting is observed in a country?
The beginning of fasting depends on the sighting of the moon in the holy month of RamadanSaudi Arabia declared the start of this year's holy month of Ramadan on March 11. Every year, there is a two-day change in the beginning of the month of Ramadan in the country. But it's not just at the beginning of each month. There is a difference in how many hours the fasting person fasts.Fasting for 12 to 17 hours a day is common throughout the world. This difference in fasting time is based on where a fasting person is located in the world.
Every year the month of Ramadan is 10 to 12 days earlier than the previous
year. This is because the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar calendar. A
lunar year has 29 or 30 days.
Muslims living in the southernmost countries of the world, such as Chile or New
Zealand, are fasting for about 12 hours this year. In contrast, in far-northern
countries, such as Iceland and Greenland, the fasting period is a little more
than 17 hours.
Since the lunar year is 11 days shorter than the solar year, Ramadan will be
celebrated twice in 2030. The first month of Ramadan will begin on January 5.
The second month of Ramadan will begin on December 26.
The month of Ramadan will begin again on March 12, exactly 33 years from now.
The year is 2057.
Hours of fasting in the country
Around the world, there are differences in how long the day lasts.
Muslims living in the southernmost countries of the world, such as Chile or New
Zealand, are fasting for about 12 hours this year. In contrast, in the most
northern countries, such as Iceland and Greenland, the fasting period is a
little more than 17 hours.
Muslims living in the northern hemisphere of the world are fasting a little
less this year. This time of their fasting till 2031 will be reduced a little
bit. They will be in winter this year. The shortest day of the year is the
month of Ramadan. Then gradually increase the time of fasting. There will come
a time when they will fast on the biggest day of the year.
Meanwhile, the opposite is happening for Muslims living south of the Earth's
equator.
In the northernmost cities of the world, such as Longyearbyen in Norway, the
sun does not set from April 20 to August 22. The Muslim residents of these
cities have to fast according to the schedule of the holy city of Mecca in
Saudi Arabia or any nearby Muslim country.
The same iftar time in the cities
The meal that Muslims eat at dawn to begin the fast is known as Sahr or Suhoor.
On the other hand, the meal that they eat at the end of the day is known as
iftar.
The time of iftar is the same in cities located in the same longitude of the
world. While the residents of these cities prepare for Iftar, the residents of
the cities on the other side of the world prepare for Sahri.
The cities with the longest and shortest fasts
Here are some of the cities in the world where people fast for the longest and
shortest time on average. However, due to the change in the day and the
difference in the method of calculation, there is some variation in the actual
time of fasting at these places.
